(Chino, Calif., March 14, 2017) – Chino Valley Medical Center (CVMC) was named one of the
nation's 100 Top Hospitals® by Truven Health Analytics™ a leading provider of information and
solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare. This is the 6th year in a row that CVMC
has been recognized for this achievement.
CVMC, established in 1972, is a 112-bed community hospital centrally located in beautiful
Southern California. After significant investments, CVMC has achieved outstanding quality and
patient safety recognition from organizations including The Leapfrog Group, US News & World
Report, Healthgrades, Women’s Choice Award®, and the National Research Corporation “Path
to Excellence” award. The hospital provides the latest technology and services for improving
lives including a da Vinci Robotic Surgery Unit and top-rated orthopedic and gastrointestinal
care.
For the 100 Top Hospitals® study, Truven Health researchers analyzed public information —
Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, core measures
and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital
Compare website.
Based on the results of this year’s study, if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of
care as those treated in the award-winning facilities:
• Nearly than 89,000 additional lives could be saved
• Over 61,000 additional patients could be complication-free
• Over $5.6 billion in inpatient costs could be saved
• The average patient stay would decrease by half a day
• Over 300,000 fewer discharged patients would be readmitted within 30 days
• Patients would spend nine minutes less in hospital emergency departments per
visit.
“The hospital industry’s ongoing transition from fee-for-service to value-based care appears to
be bearing some positive results for both patients and payers,” said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice
president at Truven Health Analytics. “The magnitude of improvement we’ve observed over the
last five years is greater than any other five-year period we’ve tracked. On top of that, this year’s
winners have reached new highs in performance in comparison to peers across the country,
which suggests that improvement in value from hospitals is likely to continue.” The winning
hospitals were announced in the March 6th edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.
The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals® study identifies hospitals and leadership teams that
provide the highest level of value to their communities, based on a national balanced scorecard.
The 100 Top Hospitals balanced scorecard measures hospital performance across 10 areas:
mortality; inpatient complications; patient safety; average patient stay; expenses; profitability;
patient satisfaction; adherence to clinical standards of care; and post-discharge mortality and
readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure, and pneumonia.
The study has been conducted annually since 1993.
