Chino Valley Medical Center Named Among 100 Top Hospitals in the Nation 5th Year in a Row

(Chino, Calif., March 4, 2016) – Chino Valley Medical Center (CVMC) was named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals® by Truven Health Analytics™ a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare. This is the 5th year in a row that CVMC has been recognized for this achievement.

The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals® study identifies hospitals and leadership teams that provide the highest level of value to their communities, based on a national balanced scorecard. The 100 Top Hospitals balanced scorecard measures hospital performance across 10 areas: mortality; inpatient complications; patient safety; average patient stay; expenses; profitability; patient satisfaction; adherence to clinical standards of care; and post-discharge mortality and readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure, and pneumonia. The study has been conducted annually since 1993.

"I'm elated! We've done it five times in a row due to the hard work and diligence of the staff." says Dr. James Lally, President and Chief Medical Officer of Chino Valley Medical Center. "We will celebrate our win during Hospital Week in May and then start planning the celebration for number 6!"

CVMC, established in 1972, is a 126-bed community hospital centrally located in beautiful Southern California. After significant investments, Chino Valley has achieved outstanding quality and patient safety recognition from organizations including The Leapfrog Group, US News & World Report, Healthgrades, Women's Choice Award®, and the National Research Corporation "Path to Excellence" award. The hospital provides the latest technology and services for improving lives including a da Vinci Robotic Surgery Unit and top-rated orthopedic and gastrointestinal care. A short drive away from all that Southern California has to offer, the suburb of Chino is considered a wonderful place to work, live and play.

For the 100 Top Hospitals® study, Truven Health researchers analyzed public information — Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare website.

Based on this year's results – if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as those treated at CVMC and the other award-winning facilities:

  • More than 104,000 additional lives could be saved.
  • Nearly 48,400 additional patients could be complication free.
  • $2 billion in inpatient costs could be saved.
  • The average patient stay would decrease by half a day.

Chino Valley Medical Center is consistently recognized as one of the top hospitals in the nation, who stands ready to serve their local community with compassionate, quality care.
