(Chino, Calif, November 2, 2017) – Chino Valley Medical Center was named among the nation's safest hospitals by The Leapfrog Group, a national non-profit that evaluates hospitals on their quality and safety measures. Chino Valley Medical Center earned an "A" grade for hospital safety after Leapfrog's evaluation of more than 2,600 hospitals nationwide.
"We are pleased to receive this important rating in patient safety from the Leapfrog Group," said James M. Lally, DO, MMM, Chief Medical Officer of Chino Valley Medical Center. "Our entire team—from doctors to nurses to staff—contributed to this safety rating, and we are grateful that our continuing efforts to deliver best-in-class health care for our patients has been recognized."
The Hospital Safety Score measures a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. Among the ways Chino Valley ensures patient safety, the hospital cultivates leadership and physician rounding on patients and communication among members of the care team. Patients and their families are kept informed and better understand their individualized treatment plan and process. By implementing the Bedside Shift Report, which is an innovative concept that moves the clinical staff from the nurse’s station to the patient’s bedside, patients feel comforted and secure knowing that critical information has been passed along during the nursing shift change.
“We set a benchmark to consistently deliver the highest quality care in our community,” said Christen Grelling, MSN, FNP, PHN, Chief Nursing Officer and Risk Manager of Chino Valley Medical Center. ”Our patient-centered culture of excellence reflects our mission to heal and save lives every day.”
The bi-annual evaluation provides data to help patients and their families make informed decisions about their healthcare and choosing a hospital. Developed under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score is based on an analysis of 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data, including rates of infections, injuries and oversights. Results recognize those hospitals making patient safety and the public reporting of quality and outcome measures a priority.
The Leapfrog Group is one of the many rankings, ratings and scorecards in which Chino Valley Medical Center participates to measure quality in patient care and patient satisfaction.
